Begur is a beautiful medieval castle town with little stone pedestrian alleyways offering a wealth of bars and cafes (many with live music in the summer), restaurants and boutique shops. The town hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, and there is always plenty going on to suit both young and old tastes. A popular weekend destination for chic Barcelonese, the town is big enough to cater for all one's requirements.

There are two large supermarkets in the town that offer a wide variety or produce and goods. One is open until 10pm every day and does not close for lunch so you can always dash up for those items you forget the first time! For those that wish to keep in touch, it also sells daily newspapers – including the Sunday Times on a Sunday (I always enjoy a quick read with a cup of coffee at one of the cafes next door at the same time!)

The nearby coastal villages of Sa Riera, Aiguafreda, Sa Tuna, Fornells, Tamariu, Calella and Llafranc are all a short drive away; many are linked by coastal paths.

The more bustling towns of Palamos and Platja D’Aro are 20mins and 25mins respectively, although the nearest ‘big’ town is Palafrugell, offering a wide variety of shopping including a vegetable market (especially big on Sundays) and a dedicated fresh fish hall.

Tamariu is one of our favourites – it has a couple of good restaurants that are south-facing and are open all year. Nothing can beat a walk followed by a glass of wine and tapas in the winter sunshine while watching the kids play on the beach!
